Marriage Notices from the Yorkville Miscellany Newspaper York County, South Carolina
Issue of November 23, 1865
On the 14th inst., by Rev. W. W. Carothers, Mr. Wm. F. Garrison, and Miss Nancy H., daughter of David Poovey, all of this District.

William F. Garrison was born in York, co. S.C., Oct. 14, 1841. At the age of eighteen he made a profession of Christianity, and united with the Presbyterian (O.S.) Church. He was married to Miss N.A.T. Poovey, Nov. 14, 1865. They moved to S. Arkansas in 1869 where they united with the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in which Bro. Garrison acted as ruling elder. In 1873 they moved to N. Arkansas; and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Thus we see they would not live out of the Church. In 1879 they moved to Dallas co. Texas and united with Pleasant Valley congregation of the C.P. church, where Bro. Garrison died, on the 6th of Oct. 1882. He leaves a wife and nine children. He left them with the legacy of an upright Christian life.
He died in faith and peace. J.H. Dickerson.

Garrison, William F
William F. Garrison was born during 1841 in York County, South Carolina. His parents were Arthur and Mariah Terissa Bentley Garison (only 1 R) of York County, South Carolina.
William was the third son of Arthur and Mariah. He enlisted in the Confederate army and served them until July of 1865. Four months later on November 14, he married Nancy Hannah Elvira Poovey. Nancy was the daughter of David and Christian Lucretia McCallum Poovey. David was born November 15, 1815 in Burke County, North Carolina and Lucretia was born February 15, 1815 at Perthshire Scotland.
William, and his new bride, Nancy lived in York County, South Carolina until the winter of 1869. They had three children during that time: Mary Catherine born during 1866; James Pickney born during 1868, and Augustus Garrison born August 14, 1869. Their other children were Emma J. born 1871; John D. born 1872; William D. born 1874; Cordelia Estelle born 1875; Nancy Garrison born during 1878, and Lois A. which was born at Liberty Grove during 1878.
The Garrison family owned large tracts of land and had lived in South Carolina for more than a hundred years, but the spoils of war caused William's parents to head southwest. It was the winter of 1869 when William, accompanied by his parents and brother Peter Prince, brother Zebus Arthur, along with his sister Sarah Clarinda Neely and her husband David Jackson traveled into Bradley County, Arkansas and settled near the small town of Warren.
William's younger brother, John, died in 1864 at the age of twenty-nine after contracting an intestinal infection while serving in the 17th Regiment, Company E, around Charleston Harbor.
William moved from Arkansas to Liberty Grove, Texas in 1878. Sometime during his service for the Confederacy, William caught severe pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. He never fully recovered and died on October 6, 1882 at the age of forty-one. Nancy never remarried.
William and Nancy were both united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Valley.
