Tips and Tricks

  • Sometimes I ask you to use a COMBINATION of keys on your keyboard. Most folks know that to capitalize a letter, they need to hold down the Shift key and type the letter. In these tutorials, I might ask you to do something like Shift S. You might also see Ctrl C or Alt F. Those are just like using the Shift key, hold down the first key, tap the 2nd key and then release the first one.
  • We won't use the F keys located at the top of the keyboard very often but, if we do, you can UNDO whatever it is by tapping the same F key again. (Most often it's F11, which changes a browser to FULL-SCREEN (taking away the menu up top and the Status Bar at the bottom.) - Try it now, tap the F11 to remove the menu, then tap it again to restore it.
  • I've tried to make sure that anything you actually have to DO is is capitalized in bold green - CLICK, TYPE, OPEN, LOOK, DOUBLE-CLICK, RIGHT-CLICK, CLOSE.
  • Items that need more attention are in bold red - SeaMonkey, FileZilla, Composer.
  • Links are either blue - FAQ - or buttons -

  • The BUTTONS for Next Page and Previous Page are NOT intuitive - meaning they go to specific pages. If you follow a link from the Menu, the Previous Page button on the new page will NOT send you back to the Menu.
  • The first time I ask you to do something new, an image is included so you know what you're looking for.
  • Sometimes, in the middle of a lesson, I realize that you may not know how to do something I'm asking you to do. In those cases, there is a link to a page on how to do it and that new page will include a link back to the page where you were working.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • No one has asked any questions - yet. Feel free to do so.
  • At the same time, please point out any errors, bad links, instructions that are difficult to follow, missing images, or even bad spelling. I know there is a lot of bad grammar, mostly to keep the instructions simple.
